Birmingham Music Debate

Hello, hello to one and all, a quick note first today to point out a discussion just kicking off over on the Capsule website about engaging regional audiences. Or to put it in terms that might actually make you want to click on the link and throw your opinion about,

How Come Nobody Goes To Gigs In Birmingham?

Main issues raised so far include:
  • The scene being too fragmented
  • Lack of transport links in the evenings
  • General lack of local public interest
For those not in the know, Capsule are the people responsible for the Supersonic festival and a whole bunch of other awesome music events in Birmingham. Their sterling work has gotten them the ear of notorious music curmudgeons Birmingham City Council, so this debate is worth getting involved in, especially if you have any ideas for how things could be improved (in theory, at least - I can't promise that the Council won't just spend any money they have on endless consultancies and other areas like, erm, conference promotion).

Cheers to Russ L for flagging this up.

UPDATE:  Nice post in reaction to this on the About A Boy Who's Just Like Me blog.
